Annabel Fasuba Joins NSC's Podium Project for Athletes

The Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) has enlisted 14-year-old sprint sensation Annabel Fasuba for its Podium Project, aimed at attracting elite young athletes from the diaspora to Nigeria's sports system. Annabel is the daughter of former African sprint king Olusoji Fasuba and is already recognized as the fastest girl in her age category in the United Kingdom.

She has demonstrated impressive performances in the 60m, 100m, and 200m events. NSC Director General Bukola Olopade visited the Fasuba family in the United Kingdom to present a recognition award, assuring them of Nigeria's support for Annabel's athletic career.

Annabel recently opened her U-17 season by winning the South England indoor 60m title at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre in London, clocking 7.51 seconds, just milliseconds shy of her club record. Olusoji Fasuba emphasized that the decision on whether Annabel will represent Nigeria internationally rests with her.

He urged Nigerian sports authorities to create structures that value athletes beyond medals.
