NSCDC Thwarts Pipeline Vandalism in Edo State

On July 16, 2026, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Edo State Command successfully thwarted an attempt at pipeline vandalism in Obazagbon, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area. The operation was led by Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, who disclosed that the anti-vandal unit was conducting routine patrols along the NNPC pipeline corridor when they encountered a group of suspected vandals.

Upon being spotted, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to escape, but NSCDC personnel responded effectively, forcing the criminals to abandon their operation and flee into the surrounding bush. Items recovered from the scene included five long gas cylinders, two motorcycles, two shovels, and two digger heads.

Ayinla described the operation as a major breakthrough in the command's ongoing efforts to protect Nigeria's critical national assets and infrastructure. He warned that criminal elements would face justice and appealed to residents for support in providing credible information to prevent vandalism.
