NSCDC Arrests Three for Illegal Ethanol Haul in A’Ibom

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Akwa Ibom State Command arrested three suspects for the illegal acquisition of a petroleum tanker containing 45,000 liters of ethanol. The operation occurred on June 23, at approximately 1:00 PM, following credible intelligence that led to the interception of the tanker along Aba Road in Ikot Umo Essien, Essien Udim Local Government Area.

NSCDC Command spokesperson, Geraldin Abetianb, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended due to suspicions surrounding the legitimacy of their transport of petroleum products. Upon interrogation, discrepancies in the waybill raised further suspicion, leading to a thorough investigation that confirmed the product was not sourced through legitimate channels.

Abetianb warned criminals against engaging in illegal petroleum trade, emphasizing that such activities constitute economic sabotage and endanger lives. The NSCDC remains committed to protecting national assets and infrastructure from vandalism and illegal activities.
