NSCDC Arrests Two for Illegal Petroleum Trade in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, arrested two suspects, Jonas Nwokpoko, 52, from Izzi South LGA of Ebonyi State, and Chinweze Iloh, 28, from Omor, Ayamelum LGA, for alleged criminal conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum products. The arrests occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at approximately 14:30 hours along Boromeu Road, near Limca Road, Onitsha, where the NSCDC impounded a truck carrying about 4,000 litres of suspected adulterated Automotive Gas Oil.

Commandant Maku Olatunde stated that the operation was intelligence-led and aimed at combating economic sabotage in the oil and gas sector. The suspects failed to produce necessary documentation for the transportation of petroleum products, leading to their arrest and the truck's impoundment under Section 17 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

Olatunde emphasized the NSCDC's commitment to protecting national assets and ongoing investigations to identify other members of the criminal syndicate.
