NSCDC Discovers Fake University in Lagos, Rescues 106 Students

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovered a fake university operating in a three-bedroom apartment in Ilado, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, rescuing 106 students. The operation, led by Chief Superintendent Gbenga Ekunola, followed credible intelligence and resulted in the arrest of the alleged proprietor.

Investigations revealed that the institution operated without official registration and presented itself as an online distance learning center affiliated with foreign universities. The students, aged 19 to 24, were reportedly recruited from various Nigerian states and neighboring countries, with fees ranging from 200,000 to 1.5 million Naira promised for admission processes.

The NSCDC discovered that the scheme operated like a Ponzi chain market, where participants were incentivized to recruit others. Many parents were unaware that their children were not attending university but were instead misled into believing they were learning a trade.

The NSCDC is expanding its investigation to uncover the full network behind this fraudulent operation.
