NUC Approves Six New Programs for University of Benin

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved six new full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programs for the University of Benin, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session. This approval follows a successful resource assessment of the proposed programs.

Among the newly approved undergraduate programs are a Bachelor of Speech Language Therapy and a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, which aim to address the shortage of specialists in critical areas of the healthcare sector. Other approved undergraduate programs include B.Sc. in International Relations, B.Sc. in Intelligence Security Studies, B.Ed. in Primary Education, and B.N.Sc. in Nursing Science.

The University of Benin's Teaching Hospital will collaborate on the nursing program. Dr.

Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, emphasized the need for trained manpower in these fields. Prof.

Edoba Omoregi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, expressed gratitude to the NUC and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to maintaining high academic standards and expanding its academic offerings.
