NUJ FCT Supports Gender Reforms at NPWC 2026 Conference

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has reaffirmed its commitment to gender mainstreaming within the police force, pledging to collaborate closely with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure journalists include ongoing gender reform efforts in their reporting. This announcement was made during the Nigeria Policewomen Conference (NPWC) 2026, themed "Strengthening Women’s Leadership in Police Inclusivity for Sustainable Reform," held in Abuja.

Comrade Grace Ik, representing the NUJ, emphasized the need for proactive engagement from policewomen to share their stories, which remain largely unreported due to a lack of structured media engagement. AIG Nkechi Ez addressed the conference on behalf of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, acknowledging the need for women's full participation in decision-making within the police.

The conference also highlighted mentorship gaps and inadequate welfare support as barriers to women's advancement in the police force. The NUJ FCT Council expressed readiness to work with the Nigeria Police Force to institutionalize media access to gender reform updates.
