NUP Commends Tinubu for N18bn Payment to Retirees

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for starting the payment of N18 billion in outstanding severance benefits to 2,700 former employees of the defunct Nigeria Airways. This payment is seen as a long-awaited relief for beneficiaries who have waited over two decades for their entitlements.

NUP's National President, Comrade Godwin Abumisi, stated that the union had persistently advocated for this payment through various channels, including press statements and open letters to the President. The union emphasized that many beneficiaries faced hardships, with some passing away before receiving their dues.

The NUP commended President Tinubu, Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, and all involved MDAs for their roles in the payment process. They called for the completion of the payment to include beneficiaries with unresolved cases, particularly those with incorrect banking details or deceased beneficiaries.

Additionally, the NUP urged for the payment of a three-month N25,000 monthly palliative for pensioners, which has been pending since the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023.
