Nwabali Named MOTM in Chippa United's Season Opener

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was awarded Man of the Match in Chippa United’s 2026/27 PSL opener against Golden Arrows on Saturday, showcasing an impressive performance in his first competitive match in eight months. He achieved a rating of 9.1, the highest on the pitch, after making six saves to maintain a clean sheet in the goalless draw at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium.

Nwabali had previously left Chippa United following Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 campaign in Morocco, with a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. He was re-signed last month after facing personal challenges, including mental health struggles following the death of his parents.

During the match, he not only excelled in shot-stopping but also effectively organized Chippa United’s defense. His performance serves as a statement to Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, indicating that Nwabali is ready to compete for a spot on the national team again.

Chippa United aims to build on this result when they host Richards Bay on August 11.
