NYCN Imo State Sets By-Election for July 25, 2026

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Imo State Chapter has scheduled a by-election for July 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Imo Youth Centre in Owerri to fill vacant executive offices. This decision was made during a council meeting on July 4, 2026, following the approval to expand the state executive council.

The vacancies arose due to the death of officeholders and prolonged absences of others, which contravened the NYCN constitution. A consent judgment delivered by Justice K.

Lewanya on November 30, 2023, recognized Comrade Humphrei Ikechukwu Osuji as the legitimate leader of the NYCN in Imo State. The council's disciplinary committee had previously recommended actions leading to the declaration of the affected offices as vacant.

Although an electoral process was initially suspended due to the death of Pope Chijiok Ekwiegh, the council has now renewed its deliberations and approved the immediate conduct of elections.
