NYSC DG Urges Employers to Provide Meaningful Jobs

During a workshop held in Kaduna, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nafiu, called on employers to offer meaningful job opportunities to corps members. The workshop, themed "Meaningful Workplace Engagement," was conducted simultaneously across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Nafiu stressed that the success of the NYSC scheme relies heavily on collaboration among employers, government agencies, and stakeholders. He reminded employers of their statutory responsibilities, including providing accommodation and ensuring the welfare and safety of corps members.

Nafiu urged employers to allow corps members to participate in community development service activities and attend official NYSC programs. He also highlighted the need for a discrimination-free workplace.

Mr. Efek Dadaza, the NYSC state coordinator, described the workshop as a platform for reviewing policies and receiving feedback from employers.

He condemned unethical practices such as proxy attendance and extortion, urging employers to ensure proper supervision and a safe working environment for corps members.
