Obafemi Martins Supports Seyi Tinubu for NFF Presidency

Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has publicly endorsed Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). This endorsement comes in the wake of a leadership crisis within the NFF, triggered by the resignation of NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the general secretary, and several executive committee members.

These resignations followed disappointing performances by Nigeria’s national teams in qualifiers and international competitions. In response, President Bola Tinubu ordered a comprehensive overhaul of the football administration, leading to the suspension of the NFF election process and the appointment of an acting general secretary.

Martins, who represented Nigeria in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, believes that the federation requires younger leadership with a deep understanding of football and its surrounding systems. He expressed his support for Seyi Tinubu, stating that he is young and capable of addressing the needs of Nigerian football.

Despite Martins' endorsement, there is no indication that Seyi Tinubu has shown interest in running for the NFF presidency.
