Ogun State Drug Smuggling Incident

A woman, Mrs Iyabo Sowunmi, was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into Ogun State's Medium Security Custodial Centre for her son, Dare Sowunmi, who is on death row. The drugs were concealed in a beverage powder sachet.

Mrs. Iyabo Sowunmi was arrested on August 28, 2026, while attempting to smuggle a psychoactive drug, suspected to be “Colos,” into Ogun prison for her son, Dare Sowunmi, who is on death row. She has been handed over to the NDLEA for prosecution.

Mrs. Iyabo Sowunmi was arrested by the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ogun State for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre. The drugs, concealed in a beverage powder sachet, were intended for an inmate on death row.
