Obasanjo: Leadership Failure is a Sin Against God

On Saturday, Olusegun Obasanjo delivered a keynote address at the Leadership Empowerment International Conference (LEIC) Nigeria 2026 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The conference, organized by the Perspectives Leadership Development Institute in collaboration with the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute, focused on "The Gravity of Leadership Failure & Correction Methodologies." Obasanjo stated that leadership is the most crucial factor in determining the success or failure of any organization, whether it be a family, business, state, or nation.

He noted that leadership failures could lead to significant consequences, urging leaders to acknowledge their mistakes, apologize, and take corrective actions. Obasanjo emphasized that failing in leadership means disappointing both humans and God, and he warned against accepting leadership roles without the commitment to fulfill responsibilities.

He also rejected justifications for poor performance based on historical issues, insisting that leaders must strive for progress regardless of past challenges.
