Obi Denies Rift With Soludo, Claims Godparent Role to His Children

Peter Obi, the former Anambra State Governor running as the National Democratic Congress presidential candidate, has rejected claims of animosity toward current Governor Chukwuma Soludo. At Friday's Nigerian Guild of Editors conference held in Enugu, Obi stressed that their relationship transcends political matters and does not align with media narratives about discord.

To demonstrate how close the two families are, Obi revealed that both he and his wife function as godparents to certain children belonging to Soludo. He referenced this point to counter allegations of a public rupture, stressing that whatever political disagreements may arise between them, there is no real animosity.

Obi additionally contested assertions made about his governorship, specifically rejecting the notion that he burdened his successor with substantial debt upon leaving office. Yet the office of Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the First Lady, offered a different narrative.

Through media aide Daniel Ezeigwe, she released a statement firmly rejecting Obi's godparent assertion. According to the First Lady's statement, the godparent claim constitutes a false representation and emphasized that Obi does not occupy such a position within the governor's family.

The First Lady's office acknowledged that both families maintain respectful relations but denied the specific godparent connection Obi had articulated. The disagreement surfaced following distribution of a video in which Obi made his godparent assertion during his remarks.

In response, the First Lady's statement asked members of the public and media alike to set aside whatever perception the video circulation might have fostered regarding familial connections between these two households. Up until publication of these reports, neither Obi himself nor Governor Soludo directly addressed the First Lady's rebuttal.
