APC Chairman Denies Party's Role in Obi's Defections

On Tuesday, during an interview on Channels Television, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), addressed allegations that the APC is responsible for the crises and defections in opposition parties, particularly concerning Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate. Yilwatda asserted that Obi has been changing political parties since 2014, long before the current administration, and that the APC has not forced him out of any party.

He emphasized that Obi's movements from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party, then to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and finally to the NDC were self-initiated. Yilwatda refuted claims that the APC is destabilizing opposition parties, stating that the issues are self-inflicted by the opposition.

He also clarified that while recruiting politicians from rival parties is part of his role, there are no APC members in the ADC or NDC. Yilwatda noted that the APC was formed around a common vision, contrasting it with the current opposition coalition's focus on personal ambition.
