Peter Obi Denies Anambra Debt Allegations from Govt

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has publicly denied claims made by the Anambra State Government that he left outstanding debts when he handed over as governor in March 2014. This denial followed statements from Izuchukwu Okafor, Anambra's Commissioner for Finance, who indicated that the state's federal allocations were still being used to service loans from Obi's administration and that of his successor, Willie Obiano.

Obi, who governed Anambra from March 2006 to March 2014, asserted that his administration settled all financial obligations before his departure. He mentioned an ecological fund that was in a dedicated account at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, which he preserved for his successor despite suggestions from his team to spend it.

Obi challenged anyone disputing his claims to provide evidence and offered to disclose the account number. He also commented on the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, noting the support of over 30 governors for President Bola.
