Benue Commissioner Criticizes Obi for Visit Protocol

Solomon Iorpev, the Benue State Commissioner for Information, accused Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, of neglecting established protocol during his visit to Benue State. Iorpev stated that Obi's failure to officially inform the Benue State Government of his visit raised security concerns, particularly due to his status as a high-profile political figure.

This incident occurred on Tuesday when some youths reportedly blocked Obi's movement in the state. Iorpev emphasized that had Obi properly notified the state government, the situation could have been avoided.

He noted that this was not the first instance of Obi allegedly disregarding protocol during visits to the state. The commissioner highlighted the importance of prior notification for security coordination, asserting that the responsibility for ensuring safety for high-profile visitors partly lies with the host state.

He described Obi's actions as "courting trouble" and reiterated the need for compliance with established procedures.
