Benue Government Unaware of Peter Obi's Visit Incident

The Benue State Government announced it was not informed about the visit of Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, on Tuesday. Obi's convoy was reportedly obstructed by youths at Gyado Villa along the Gboko Road while he was en route to Yelewata, intending to meet families affected by the June 2025 attack that resulted in multiple fatalities.

Kula Tersoo, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, stated that the government could have responded more effectively had it been notified of Obi's arrival. He raised concerns regarding the security arrangements for Obi, emphasizing that as a presidential candidate and former governor, Obi should have received adequate protection from federal security agencies and local authorities.

Tersoo denied any connection between the youths who stopped Obi and the state government, asserting that the administration does not employ thugs and does not view Obi as a threat to Governor Alia.
