Obidient Movement Opposes INEC's AI Plans for 2027 Elections

The Obidient Movement has expressed strong opposition to the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) intention to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the movement, issued a statement in Abuja, emphasizing that INEC must first address critical issues related to electoral transparency, result transmission, and institutional credibility.

This warning follows comments from INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, who announced the commission's plans to utilize AI for detecting discrepancies in election results and combating AI-generated disinformation. Dr. Tanko criticized INEC for failing to clarify the operational framework of the AI technology and the specific problems it aims to resolve.

He argued that introducing AI without addressing existing failures in the electoral process is not a genuine reform. The Obidient Movement is calling for INEC to publish a detailed roadmap for the elections and to conduct an independent audit of its current electoral technology, ensuring public disclosure of findings and corrective measures.
