Obi's Supporters Plan One Million-Man March in Benue

Supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), are organizing a one million-man march in Benue State on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The event, led by the Obidient Movement, will take place in Makurdi, starting at the Wurukum Roundabout at 9 am.

This announcement follows an incident where Obi's convoy was blocked and attacked by youths shortly after his arrival in Benue State, where he intended to meet families affected by a massacre in June 2025. The youths reportedly stopped his convoy at Gyado along the Gboko Road, preventing him from reaching his destination.

The Benue State Government, represented by Chief Press Secretary Kula Tersoo, denied any prior knowledge of Obi's visit and rejected claims that the youths were acting on behalf of the government. Tersoo emphasized that the state does not engage thugs and asserted that Obi is not considered a political threat to Governor Hyacinth Alia.
