Victor Ochei Promises Tennis Reforms After Davis Cup Loss

The Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), led by President Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei Esq, acknowledged Team Nigeria's participation in the Davis Cup World Group II as a historic milestone, despite suffering a 0-4 defeat to Morocco in Rabat.

The competition concluded at the Railway Club courts, where Morocco secured victory after establishing a 2-0 lead on Saturday. Ochei highlighted that Nigeria's earlier success in February, defeating Uzbekistan 3-1 to earn promotion to World Group II for the first time in 30 years, marks a significant achievement in the nation's Davis Cup history.

He noted setbacks in preparations due to the injury of Daniel Adeleye and the absence of rising star Oluwaseun Ogunsakin. Ochei praised the efforts of the players—Canice Abua, Yusuf Abubakar, and Michael Emmanuel—and reiterated his commitment to reforms aimed at empowering young Nigerian players.

He expressed confidence in returning stronger for the World Group II Playoffs next year and emphasized the importance of building a new generation of tennis stars.
