Nigeria's Tennis Team Prepares for Historic Davis Cup Match

Team Nigeria is ramping up preparations in Rabat for their Davis Cup World Group II tie against Morocco, scheduled for September 19-20 at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc. The Nigerian Tennis Federation (NTF), led by Secretary-General Shammah Aliyu Makpa, aims for a historic first victory over Morocco, having lost all four previous encounters.

The Nigerian delegation departed Lagos on Monday and began training immediately upon arrival. Head coach Benson Ishicheli is working with players Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel, and Yusuf Abubakar, while the participation of Oluwaseun Ogunsakin is uncertain due to unforeseen circumstances.

The team is utilizing morning and afternoon sessions to refine tactics and doubles combinations. Makpa expressed confidence in the team's preparations, acknowledging the challenge posed by Morocco and the support from the National Sports Commission, particularly Chairman Malam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade.

Nigeria secured its place in the World Group II stage after defeating Uzbekistan in February, ending over 30 years of waiting.
