Nigeria Davis Cup Team Prepares for Historic Tie in Morocco

Nigeria’s Davis Cup team has arrived in Rabat, Morocco, for their inaugural World Group II tie against the hosts scheduled for September 19 and 20. The Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) confirmed the team's arrival in a statement signed by Secretary General Makpa Shama, indicating that preparations and acclimatization have commenced.

Under the leadership of team captain and coach Benson Oshicheli, Nigeria earned promotion to World Group II earlier in the year. The Nigerian team, ranked 66th globally, includes former national No. 1 Daniel Adeleye, current national No. 1 Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel, Abubakar Yusuf, and 17-year-old Seun Ogunsakin.

Ogunsakin has had a notable year, being the first Nigerian since 1990 to qualify for a Grand Slam main draw at Wimbledon. The tie is significant for Nigerian tennis, following the men's promotion to World Group II and the women's success in the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa World Group II.

The NTF stated the team would continue training in Rabat before the tie begins.
