Imeko Monarch Advocates Customs Training School for Development

Oba Benjamin Olanite, the Onimeko of Imeko, called on the federal government to establish a Nigeria Customs Service training school in Imeko during a press conference on Monday, part of the 2026 Imeko Festival activities. He emphasized the community's historical significance, sharing a boundary with the Republic of Benin, and argued that such a school would promote even development.

The traditional ruler pledged that the community would provide land for the training institution. He acknowledged the Ogun State Government's efforts in addressing teacher shortages in local schools, commending Prince Dapo Abiodun and Commissioner for Education Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu for their interventions.

However, he stressed the need for further investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure in Imeko, linking these issues to broader national development and security concerns. Professor Anthony Asiwaju also urged government attention to border communities, particularly regarding education and infrastructure.
