Ogun Retirees Protest for Postponement of Contributory Pension Scheme Implementation

Ogun State retirees, represented by Omopariola Oluwol, protested the introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) due to feeling unprepared and financially vulnerable. They gathered at the Governor's office in Abeokuta, highlighting the challenges faced since the shift from the defined benefit scheme to the CPS.

Oluwol emphasized the emotional and financial distress retirees are experiencing, urging Governor Dapo Abiodun to postpone the CPS implementation until retirees receive adequate benefits. Arinola Adetayo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun Bureau of Pensions, assured the retirees that their concerns would be addressed.

Retirees expressed disappointment over the low amounts in their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSA), with some having balances as low as N10 million. They pleaded for the Governor's intervention to ensure a smooth transition to the CPS.
