Edo State Governor Launches Comprehensive Security Plan

Edo State Governor Mondai Okpebholo is focused on building a comprehensive security architecture to address crime, particularly cultism and kidnapping, which have plagued the state. His strategy includes legislative reforms such as the amendment of laws prohibiting secret cult activities and kidnapping, which will impose stricter penalties.

To enhance the operational capacity of security agencies, the government is procuring patrol vehicles, including Hilux trucks, and introducing hundreds of motorcycles to improve response times in difficult terrains. A multi-agency security structure is being established, involving police, military, civil defense, and local vigilante groups to coordinate intelligence and conduct raids on criminal hideouts.

The administration has also initiated the demolition of properties linked to criminal activities, sending a strong deterrent message. Additionally, Governor Okpebholo advocates for the establishment of special courts dedicated to cultism and kidnapping cases to ensure swift trials and reduce delays in prosecution, thereby strengthening the state's judicial framework against crime.
