Oloyede's JAMB Tenure: Reforms and Challenges in Education

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede's tenure as Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to conclude on July 31, after serving two terms of five years.

His administration, which began in August 2016, has implemented sweeping reforms aimed at strengthening the integrity of Nigeria's university admissions system. Oloyede's leadership has focused on technological innovations, financial transparency, and restoring public confidence in the admissions process.

Notable achievements include the introduction of biometric verification, tighter monitoring of computer-based tests, and a significant reduction in examination malpractice. Under his tenure, JAMB has reported a substantial operational surplus, remitting N50 billion to the federal government.

However, Oloyede's administration has faced challenges, including a rising number of candidates, policy controversies, and scrutiny over examination practices. Despite these setbacks, his reforms have transformed JAMB into a more efficient and transparent body, addressing long-standing issues in Nigeria's higher education system.
