Olumide Onadipe's "Earth" Exhibit Opens at SOTO Gallery

Olumide Onadipe, a multidisciplinary artist, is set to present his next solo exhibit titled "Earth" at SOTO Gallery in Ikoyi, opening on April 19 and running until May 31. The exhibit will delve into the relationship between materiality and memory, addressing environmental consciousness.

Known for his innovative sculptural language, Onadipe transforms everyday discarded materials into complex tactile forms, blurring the lines between painting and sculpture. His work often reflects the consumer experience in Nigeria, with pieces like "Eko Bridge" serving as metaphors for connection and separation.

The exhibit also features a series titled "Green Side," which critiques the "japa" phenomenon—an urgent migration trend among skilled Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad due to socio-economic challenges. Onadipe's work raises critical questions about the risks and realities faced by those pursuing migration.

He holds a master's degree in visual art from the University of Lagos and has exhibited globally, including at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London.
