Super Falcons Must Qualify for Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Patience Avre, a former forward for Nigeria's senior women's football team, has called on the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure that the Super Falcons do not miss the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Avre, who represented Nigeria in the 1995, 1999, and 2003 FIFA Women's World Cups and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, expressed concern over the rigorous qualification process.

Nigeria will face strong opponents in the African qualifiers, including Morocco and Cameroon. The qualification phases are set to take place from October 2026 to December 2027.

Avre stressed the importance of adequate preparation and financial support from the NFF, which has historically taken the lead in funding, while the NSC is responsible for athlete support. She warned that without proper planning, Nigeria risks failing to qualify for the Olympics, urging both organizations to work together to support the Super Falcons throughout the qualification process.
