Amaechi Accuses Tinubu of Disrespecting Christians

Rotimi Amaechi, the presidential running mate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused President Bola Tinubu and some of his aides of showing disrespect towards the Christian faith and the Catholic Church during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. Amaechi stated that his disagreement with Tinubu was not based on ethnicity but stemmed from what he described as ongoing attacks on Christians.

He emphasized the need for respect towards the Catholic Church and criticized the President for allowing his aides to target Christian leaders and institutions. Amaechi's remarks came after Cardinal Onaiyekan criticized President Tinubu for dismissing concerns raised by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) during a meeting at the Presidential Villa.

Onaiyekan also expressed worries about Nigeria's deteriorating economic and security situation. In response, the Presidency, through spokesman Bayo Onanuga, refuted Onaiyekan’s comments, asserting that the Tinubu administration has made significant progress in both areas.
