Amaechi Challenges Tinubu's Election Remarks Ahead of 2027

Rotimi Amaechi, the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, responded to President Bola Tinubu’s comments regarding political competition, where Tinubu stated that anyone seeking to remove him from office must be prepared to "wrestle" him. During an interview on Channels TV, Amaechi expressed that he is not intimidated by Tinubu's remarks and emphasized that the opposition will confront him at the polls.

He stated, “Let the President continue to tell the public that he will win the election at all costs until we get to the field.” Additionally, Amaechi accused Tinubu and his aides of insulting his Christian faith and the Catholic Church in light of the reactions to comments made by Cardinal John Onaiyekan after a meeting with the President. Onaiyekan had indicated that Tinubu seemed determined to win the 2027 presidential election “by all means” and disagreed with the bishops’ assessment of Nigeria's economic situation, asserting that conditions were improving.
