ADC Criticizes Tinubu's Government Over Hunger Comments

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement on Wednesday criticizing President Bola Tinubu's administration after comments made by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga suggested that hunger and hardship in Nigeria were overstated. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's public secretary, described Onanuga's remarks as insensitive and indicative of a government increasingly detached from the struggles of millions of Nigerians facing rising living costs and worsening economic conditions.

Abdullahi emphasized that the hardship experienced across the country cannot be dismissed as politically motivated exaggeration, noting that 80 percent of Nigerians struggle to feed their families and afford basic necessities. He attributed the economic challenges to poorly conceived and implemented policies by the Tinubu administration, which took office in May 2023.

The ADC's response highlights the disconnect between government officials and the realities faced by citizens, questioning whether the administration acknowledges the consequences of its policies.
