APC Supporters Clash in Ondo North Over Candidate Replacement

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed in Ondo North over the replacement of candidates after a primary election on Saturday. Hon.

Gbenga Elegbeley was declared the winner of the primary, which led to protests against the outcome, particularly from supporters of Sen. Olajid Ipinsagba.

The situation escalated as factions arrived at the scene, resulting in violent confrontations where supporters hurled bottles and brandished sticks, creating panic among residents and road users. The Ondo State Police Command, led by DSP Jimoh Abayomi, intervened promptly to prevent further escalation, deploying tear gas as part of crowd control measures.

The police emphasized their commitment to protecting citizens' rights to peaceful assembly while urging political stakeholders to embrace peaceful means of resolving grievances. Following the intervention, security personnel maintained a presence in the area to ensure sustained peace and prevent further violence.
