Ondo Assembly Denies Governor's Role in Speaker's Removal

On Wednesday, the Ondo State House of Assembly dismissed claims that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was behind the move to remove Speaker Hon. Olamide Oladiji, asserting that the leadership crisis was an internal matter.

House spokesman Hon. Olatunji Fabiyi stated that the decision to seek the Speaker's removal was made independently by lawmakers, who had already resolved to act before meeting with the governor.

The governor only requested additional time before further action. Fabiyi emphasized that the issue stemmed from a controversy regarding the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) budget, where a resolution was presented without the lawmakers' knowledge or approval.

He warned that if Oladiji did not resign by Sunday, the House would initiate constitutional procedures for his removal. Fabiyi also addressed concerns regarding the Speaker's possession of the Assembly's mace, asserting that the legislators were capable of handling the situation.
