Ondo Assembly Confirms Ongoing Impeachment of Speaker

The impeachment crisis involving Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, continues as Olatunji Ifabiyi, the Assembly’s spokesperson, confirmed that lawmakers are still pursuing the impeachment process. In an interview with NAN, Ifabiyi refuted claims that the lawmakers had abandoned their efforts to remove Oladiji, stating that such reports are misinformation.

He emphasized that the impeachment process is ongoing despite attempts by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other political leaders to mediate the disagreement within the Assembly. Ifabiyi asserted that some lawmakers are determined to replace Oladiji and have not withdrawn from the impeachment initiative.

He stated, “We have been hearing reports that we have stopped the process; that is not correct. It is misinformation.

We are still on it. He cannot continue as our Speaker.” This statement follows an incident where thugs invaded the Assembly complex, reportedly coming from Ondo town, which is Oladiji's constituency.
