Ondo Speaker Olamide Oladiji Faces Impeachment Threat

Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have given Speaker Olamide Oladiji a deadline to resign or face impeachment due to allegations of financial misconduct. The lawmakers have demanded his resignation before Sunday, ahead of the House's next plenary session.

A total of 21 out of 26 members have signed an impeachment notice against Oladiji, indicating a clear majority. Olatunji Fabiyi, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, confirmed that the decision was made to address internal concerns rather than external political influences.

The controversy centers on the handling of the Ondo State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) budget, with accusations that a resolution was presented in the name of lawmakers without their consent. Fabiyi emphasized that this issue is strictly between the lawmakers and the Speaker, asserting that the majority have lost confidence in Oladiji's leadership.

The governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been informed of the situation and requested time to review the matter.
