Ondo State Bans Unverified Alcohol After 30 Deaths

The Ondo State government has implemented an immediate ban on the sale and distribution of unverified alcoholic drinks and substances after approximately 30 deaths in the Odigbo area were linked to their consumption. Honourable Idowu Ajanaku, the commissioner for information and orientation, stated that the ban is crucial to prevent further loss of life and to contain the situation.

Ajanaku warned that violators would face legal consequences and emphasized that security agencies have been directed to act against the distribution of illegal products. The Ministry of Health is investigating the substances responsible for the deaths, with scientific officers deployed to the affected areas.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa's administration is committed to ensuring public safety and preventing additional casualties. Residents are urged to refrain from consuming unverified alcoholic products, particularly those lacking National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) approval, and to report any suspicious activities.
