Ondo Governor Criticized for 'Keke' Ambulance Project

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has come under fire for unveiling a tricycle ambulance, referred to as a 'Keke' ambulance, as a key project to mark the first anniversary of his administration. The commissioning event, which took place at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital complex, was intended to celebrate his leadership but instead sparked widespread mockery and criticism across the state.

Activist Omoyele Sowore described the initiative as a sign of regression for an oil-producing state, questioning the governor's priorities given the state's significant monthly allocations from the federal account. Critics, including local residents and social media users, expressed disappointment, arguing that the cost of the commissioning event outweighed the value of the project itself.

In defense, Governor Aiyedatiwa's aide, Yomi Oyekan, stated that the tricycle ambulance was designed for rural areas with difficult terrain and was not meant to replace standard ambulances, emphasizing the need for accessible healthcare delivery.
