ONSA and DECAN Strengthen Partnership for Security Reporting

The Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) have committed to deepening their partnership to promote responsible security reporting. During a visit to Abuja on Wednesday, led by DECAN President Odita Sundai, the meeting aimed to enhance public understanding of national security issues and build public confidence.

Musa Umar Bologi, DECAN's General Secretary, reaffirmed the association's commitment to supporting ONSA in ensuring factual and balanced reporting. The discussions included proposals for greater access to official activities, increased inclusion of journalists, and the establishment of dedicated media centers to facilitate interaction between journalists and ONSA officials.

Odita emphasized the importance of professional development for defense correspondents, particularly in addressing emerging security threats. The association plans to unveil a quarterly public defense correspondent report in October 2026, aimed at informing and analyzing national security matters.

Dr. Onumah acknowledged the critical role of defense correspondents in fostering public understanding of security issues.
