Ooni of Ife Urges Peace Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, voiced concerns regarding the escalating political tension in Osun State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15. This statement was made during a visit from the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof.

Joash Amupitan, who was in Ife as part of a five-day stay in the state. Ogunwusi noted that the political climate had been a significant topic of discussion among traditional rulers prior to Amupitan's arrival.

He urged the INEC Chairman to act as a fair umpire and emphasized the importance of a peaceful election, appealing to political figures to embrace tranquility. Amupitan, who described the Osun election as a critical precursor to the 2027 general elections, highlighted that there are 2,339,233 registered voters in the state across 3,763 polling units.

He called on traditional rulers to leverage their influence to promote peace and discourage violence among political actors.
