OPay Confirms Commitment to Nigeria Amid Exit Rumors

OPay has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria, dismissing social media reports about a planned exit from the country. This clarification was made during a Live Town Hall event in Lagos, attended by senior executives, industry stakeholders, and media representatives.

Dotun Adekunle, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer of OPay, stated that the company is fully operational and described the exit rumors as false. He emphasized that OPay did not plan to shut down operations and continued its services normally on September 2, despite claims it would cease operations on September 1.

Akinfolabi Rokosu, Chief Legal Counsel, announced that OPay has initiated legal action against those responsible for the misinformation, which the Central Bank of Nigeria has also deemed fake news. The company is cooperating with the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force in the investigation.

Industry stakeholders expressed concern that such misinformation could undermine trust in the digital payments ecosystem.
