Optimus Bank Launches Blood Donation Drive in Lagos

Optimus Bank has initiated a blood donation drive in Lagos to support maternal and emergency healthcare, addressing Nigeria's ongoing blood supply shortage. The campaign, organized under the bank's corporate social responsibility platform, Impact Starts With Us, is themed “GIVE BLOOD.

GIVE LIFE.” and aims to encourage voluntary blood donation among employees, stakeholders, and community members. Dr Ademola Odeyemi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Optimus Bank, stated that the initiative reflects the bank's commitment to enhancing community health beyond its financial services.

The World Health Organisation estimates Nigeria needs 1.8 to 2 million blood units annually, yet only 371,827 units were collected in 2024. The campaign received technical support from the Department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), with Professor Titilope Adeyemo emphasizing the critical role of voluntary donations in maintaining adequate blood stocks.

Optimus Bank plans to continue supporting healthcare initiatives to strengthen community health.
