Adeleke Sues EFCC for N2bn Over Frozen State Account

Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, has initiated a N2 billion damages lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to the alleged unlawful freezing of the State’s Federal Statutory Allocation Account. The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1763/2026, was filed on August 6, 2026, and includes the Attorney General and Accountant General of Osun State as co-plaintiffs.

The defendants in the case are the EFCC, its Chairman, and First Bank Nigeria Limited. The plaintiffs, represented by a legal team led by Prof.

Adekilekun, SAN, are seeking a determination from the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding the authority of the EFCC to freeze or interfere with the Osun State Statutory Account without due process. They argue that such actions violate constitutional provisions and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Establishment Act, and they request the court to set aside the EFCC's directive that led to the account's freezing.
