Adeleke Challenges EFCC's Freeze on Osun Accounts

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has demanded an explanation from the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, regarding the freezing of the state's bank accounts. Adeleke described the EFCC's action as unlawful, claiming it threatens constitutional democracy and violates the rule of law, as it was executed without a court order.

He alleged that the move is part of an intimidation campaign against his administration ahead of the August 15 governorship election, influenced by former governor Gboyega Oyetola. The EFCC had directed the state’s banker to freeze the accounts through a “Post No Debit” order.

Adeleke has instructed the state’s Attorney General, Oluwole Jimi-Bada (SAN), to challenge the EFCC's action in the Federal High Court in Osogbo. Jimi-Bada confirmed the receipt of the EFCC directive and emphasized that the agency cannot freeze government accounts without judicial approval.

He warned that this restriction could disrupt government operations and public service delivery.
