Adeleke Challenges EFCC Over Frozen Osun Salary Account

Governor Ademola Adeleke announced his intention to contest the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) decision to freeze the Osun State salary account held at First Bank. He described the EFCC's action as unconstitutional and a breach of due process, asserting that it threatens Nigeria's democracy.

The EFCC claims it acted to prevent the alleged diversion of public funds, citing over N18 billion withdrawn from the account in suspicious transactions. Critics, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), condemned the freezing as "political terrorism," alleging it is part of a strategy by the ruling party to undermine democracy.

Adeleke stated that the EFCC did not obtain a court order before freezing the account, which he deemed unacceptable in a democratic society. He called on the EFCC Chairman to justify the directive publicly.

Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force deployed 15,000 personnel in Osun State to ensure compliance with electoral laws ahead of the governorship election scheduled for next Saturday.
