Adeleke Challenges EFCC Over Frozen Osun State Account

On Wednesday, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke publicly challenged the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, to justify the freezing of the Osun State Government's account. Adeleke criticized the EFCC's actions as illegal and a threat to democracy, stating that the freezing occurred without a court order.

He accused the EFCC of acting on the orders of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, asserting that such intimidation undermines the constitutional rights of subnational governments. Adeleke instructed his Attorney General, Oluwole Jimi-Bada (SAN), to challenge the EFCC's actions in the Federal High Court in Osogbo.

Jimi-Bada confirmed that the EFCC had sent a 'Post no debit' letter to First Bank, where the state's accounts are held, and emphasized that while the EFCC can investigate, it cannot freeze accounts without a court order. The governor reiterated that state funds are not being used for his reelection campaign.
