CISLAC Warns of Electoral Violence Ahead of Osun Polls

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has expressed alarm over increasing electoral violence, political intimidation, and vote buying as the August 15 governorship election in Osun State approaches. In a statement released on Wednesday, Executive Director Auwal Musa Rafsanjani highlighted findings from independent monitoring and media reports indicating a troubling trend that threatens electoral credibility and voter participation.

CISLAC reported multiple election-related incidents, including the killing of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade in Ilobu due to a stray bullet during a clash, the killing of Kolade Eluyera in Irewole LGA, and attacks on political gatherings. The organization emphasized the urgent need for stakeholders to prioritize peace and citizen protection.

CISLAC also raised concerns about the recruitment of political thugs and warned against vote buying, which undermines electoral integrity. They noted recent arrests related to electoral offenses and urged law enforcement to investigate allegations transparently.

Furthermore, CISLAC commented on the deployment of armed military personnel to the INEC office in Osun, calling for clarity on their role to ensure it does not intimidate voters.
