Police Conduct Professional Oversight in Osun Election

The Police Service Commission (PSC) released an interim report declaring the conduct of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) during the Osun State Governorship Election on August 15, 2026, as professional and orderly. The report, communicated by Torty Kalu, the Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, was based on observations from polling units across the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State.

It noted that police deployment was adequate, averaging four officers per polling unit, with variations across the senatorial districts. The report also highlighted effective inter-agency collaboration with various security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Army, which contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election.

The PSC commended the professionalism and courtesy of police officers, who maintained order and responded well to inquiries. DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), leading the monitoring team, expressed satisfaction with the police's conduct and praised IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu for the effective deployment strategy.
