Bishops Congratulate Adeleke on Osun Election Victory

The World Bishops Council (WBC) in Africa congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election. The council commended the voters for their determination to participate despite pre-election threats and monetary inducements.

In a statement signed by Bishop Seun Adeoye and Bishop Mike Adekeye Adebomi, the WBC expressed confidence in their endorsement of Adeleke, which was based on careful consideration and consultations with global WBC-affiliated bodies. The bishops emphasized that Adeleke's victory reinforced their belief in his suitability for the role.

They urged him to demonstrate magnanimity, avoid victimization of opponents, and focus on uniting the people of Osun State while prioritizing residents' welfare. Additionally, the Religious Engagement Committee (Christianity) congratulated Adeleke and pledged continued support throughout his term.

Adeleke won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Munirudeen Bola Oye.
